Python Job: Data Platform Engineer (Freelance)

We are looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer to grow our team of data experts. Your goal will be to constantly improve and scale our group wide adopted NN Data Platform solutions. The data team at NN is set-up as a central entity enabling other Business Units and Group departments. We help international engineering teams in product, finance, HR, facility, etc. in delivering reporting and smart data products to their users, based on the building blocks we provide.

This is a temporary job for the upcoming 6 till 12 months. Startdate: As soon as possible.

Your impact as a senior Data Platform Engineer

At the NN Data and Analytics Platform Team (NNDAP), you will be responsible for the building and automation of data platform infrastructure and functional data components. You enable and actively collaborate with our platform teams in the business units to deliver high-quality software components, used at the BU’s to compile data systems which make Nationale Nederland the best data-driven financial services company. You get the opportunity to take part in designing and implementing code that will be re-used by over 75 data engineers in 10 teams and 15 countries.

Technologies you will work with

• Our infrastructure runs on MS Azure cloud and we use Terraform as IaC. We test with Terratest (Go)
• We use Azure Data Factory for pipelines and orchestration and Databricks for processing and transforming data

Your role

• You will build the core functional data components as part of the NNDAP product and automate the way how they are tested and deployed
• Understand the needs of your various customers from different units and translate them to modular solutions which are usable by the vast majority
• Brainstorm and design solutions to optimize our data platform solution architecture
• Share knowledge in our data engineering community, pair program and collaborate on code together with other data engineers within NN
• Enable business teams to run successful data and AI projects

Your team

You are in regular direct contact with engineers from different teams, cloud engineers, ML Ops engineers, as well as the NNDAP product owner and product manager. To set the foundation of the materialization of NN’s data ambitions, you must be self-directed and comfortable with the complexity of supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.

Your profile

• You have 5+ years of relevant software, data and/or platform engineering experience, building platforms which are modular, testable, scalable and easily consumable
• Have 3+ years hands-on experience on one or more cloud services (Azure/GCP/AWS) like: ADF, Data-lake, Delta-lake, Databricks, Key Vaults, BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Dataproc, Datapipeline, nesis, etc.
• Experience with Data as Code; version control, small and regular commits, unit tests, CI/CD, packaging, branching, containerization, etc.
• Demonstrated programming and debugging experience with Python/PySpark, SQL, Go
• Preferably experience with open-source projects run with a “build once, deploy often” mindset & Experience or interest in Domain Driven Design

We have set up our offices in such a way that there is a suitable place for every type of work. The official location for this job is the Hague.

As Data Platform Engineer you are based in our fantastic office in The Hague. The office is located next to the A12, but is also easily accessible by public transport as well. Want to get some fresh air? You can take the tram or bike and you will be at the beach in half an hour.
